ANTONELLA PRETI.

Her interest and passion for drawing and color have always accompanied her in her personal and professional life, but only since 2008 has she devoted herself completely to painting.

Born in Borgomanero, she has been living for some years in Gattico, a town in the province of Novara. She is self-taught, a surveyor by training, she turns her pictorial research towards a typology of figurativism, which, starting from the solid basis of design and intersection of lines and shapes, creates places of illusory three-dimensional perspective.

She is an artist engaged in the constant search for new formal and artistic solutions, today she translates and enhances the abstract geometries of the previous period in a new stylistic path. The geometric shape, the surprising perception of a color that gives light and movement, the lines that attract and remove in the discovery of a space return in a key now of a modern and revitalized metaphysics.

Portrayed in interior spaces, figures appear that have no face, but who nevertheless possess a strong expressive characterization thanks to the careful study and the perfect rendering of attitudes and postures.

The love for geometry also persists in her clothes which, precious mosaics, are characterized by chromatic pieces, a connecting element to her previous period of abstract representations.

In her works, the impact of the chiaroscuro perspective space is evident, characterized by an accentuated linearism and by the contrast between "whites" and "blacks". The metaphysical box is strengthened and the artist produces a spatial enlargement of the interiors. The linear perspective creates scenographic depths by lengthening the background and at the same time emphasizing the human presence. The architectural structure of the interiors is articulated and rich, complex creature of a capable designer.

TWO IMPORTANT EXHIBITIONS:

In July 2020 he participated with the artistic direction of designer Antonio Perotti and with other 15 international artists in the exhibition "ART and DESIGN" at the Giovanni Agnelli CAR MUSEUM in Turin where the prototype of the new city car MOLE URBANA was presented. created by designer Umberto Palermo and each of the 16 artists “dressed” the new GreenCar with their own POP work.

In May 2021 he participated, together with the same international artistic group, in the definitive presentation on the market of the new MOLE URBANA at the Venice Boat Show, “dressing up” the electric charging stations in the POP version.

CRITICAL:

"Portrait of the contemporary, this is the essence of Antonella's artistic production. A raw portrait with an immediate perception, deprived of noises, is silent, like a video without audio. Urban landscapes in relation to man are the constant that is renewed in every work, cities reproduced with design precision, at times they seem to have remained on the architect's sheet as never finished, never realized yet real, postpone a claustrophobic feeling, inexorably caged in blind spaces, obsessively repetitive and uninhabited, black and white accentuates the looming sensation architectural structures that close the space and isolate the horizon. Suddenly the alienating element appears, calling into question the cosmic solitude told in the geometries. The human subjects fit into the context as the only mobile element of color, sinuous, soft figures , with poses captured by everyday life, by the normality of gesture and habit The system suggests a theatrical backdrop, that of life where you play with yourself and with emotions. You can find joy and expectation, dialogue and thought alone, but this too is pure imaginary projection of the mind.The key element is the absence of the face, therefore the absence of the relational state, inside of the work itself and outside with the user. Metaphorically, the depersonalization of contemporary man is staged, the inability or impossibility to communicate and fully live the emotional and sensorial life, excluding sight and the verb remains a form of communication that is incomplete, apparent, sucked into an impending urban context. Paradoxically, in a purely visual society, the actors who wander around the stage represented by the artist, communicate by stereotypes, get used to the system while looking for an individual and personalizing look through the instrumental use of color. The eschatological sense of the works overflows from the support, catching the unprepared user and yet exerting a sort of psychological pressure on it. The message is fully and expertly expressed with high artistic value. "

Antonella Preti-seems to be a reflection on the continuous evolution of the soul and its many facets. Shakespearean made of the same material of which dreams are made, these female figures blend and confuse with the places they are surrounded by, interior and exterior architectures that seem to give them vital lymph.

Portraits in interior spaces, the characters of the domestic and familiar existence appear: like family photographs, the portraits of proud mothers presenting their offspring flow in her works, of serene children showing their toys and wives caught in moments of serene rest. It is a return to the figurative, indeed to the figure who rediscovers not only the ways of De Chirico - figures that can recall the metaphysical mannequins - but above all those of the Italian Renaissance. Antonella Preti's figures have no face or hands, they are not the physiognomic identification of a person but of the "person": of the Mother, of the Woman, or of Childhood ... forgetting the particular existence, her characters assume general traits so that each can recognize you. To obtain the universal representation of topoi, the artist chooses the path presented by artists of the Italian Renaissance or artists such as Cezanne: clear geometric shapes depict and outline the anatomies, simplifying and mathematicalizing them. The oval of the faces portrayed in Antonella Preti's metaphysical boxes takes up the perfect oval, for example, of the madonnas of Piero della Francesca and it is precisely the mathematical definition of space and of the body that makes the identification of the relative in his depicted humanity imperishable. . Yet each portrayed character lives and moves with extreme truth: the figures are faceless but still have a strong expressive characterization thanks to the careful study and the perfect rendering of attitudes and postures.

The love for geometry persists even in the garments which, precious mosaics, are characterized by chromatic pieces of hard and precious stones. They are gems set in a spatial perspective escape and in a geometric grid of engineering rigor. They are the element of freedom from the constructive rigor of the work: the pieces that make up the garments are arranged free and chromatic with respect to the accentuated linearism and bichromism of the dominant perspective. They are also a connecting element of his geometric period to the new path as they appear as an updated reinterpretation of the previous abstract representations.

The impact of the perspective space is evident in the works on display; the metaphysical box is strengthened and the artist produces a spatial enlargement of the interiors. Demonstrating once again a very deep knowledge of the teachings of the Italian Renaissance, Antonella Preti restarts from the studies of Paolo Uccello to give life to dizzying plans that renew the metaphysical box, expanding it and making it expressive.
